The following is a statement from Congressional candidate Reid Ribble:

“Northeastern Wisconsin residents are filing returns today, and perhaps many of them are reflecting on the actions of the federal government over the past year: Politicians in Washington have already spent their 2009 tax money.

Taxpayers are not paying for the services today: We’re paying debt payments on services and wasteful spending long since passed. With a national debt totaling more than $116,000 per taxpayer, it will unfortunately take many future April 15ths to “dig out.”

Of course, “digging out” is contingent upon Washington behaving responsibly starting today and not racking up trillions in additional debt. Given our current representation Washington . . . it’s unlikely. Congressman Kagen says he wrote the healthcare bill. He voted for a $1500 per family energy tax hike. He voted for bailouts for failed businesses. He voted for trillion dollars in spending programs and called it “stimulus.”

Unfortunately, all of Steve Kagen’s spending hasn’t created the jobs he and his liberal leaders promised. More and more Wisconsin residents find themselves not paying taxes today…because they don’t have a job.

While Americans dislike paying taxes, they dislike being unemployed and struggling even more.

On this Tax Day, we need a change in economic policy as much as we need tax reform.

As long as Steve Kagen continues to push Nancy Pelosi’s agenda of expanding government programs, Wisconsin residents are going to continue to face more painful Tax Days. We need a change in Washington that puts Americans back to work and puts our nation’s fiscal house in order. Steve Kagen has a long record proving he is either incapable or unwilling to lead this charge. With the 8th Congressional voters’ permission in fall, that’s exactly what I will do.”
