The U.S. Department of Labor announced that the unemployment rate fell to 9.7% from 9.9% in May, adding 431,000 jobs. However, only 41,000 jobs were created in private sector. The remaining jobs were temporary positions created by the U.S. Census Bureau, all of which will be lost within the coming weeks.  The reality came in far short of forecaster’s estimates that the private sector would create as many as 150,000 jobs in May.

The weak jobs report showed lackluster gains in many sectors of the economy, including retail, manufacturing and service sector jobs all throughout the nation. These areas of our economy have been hardest hit by the failure in leadership in Washington. Businesses are not going to hire while there is so much uncertainty about how new government regulations and laws are going to affect their business.

“The newest unemployment numbers only further prove that the Democrat’s economic policies in Washington have not stimulated the economy and failed to grow the private sector,” said Ribble. “In fact, last month, Recovery.gov reported that the stimulus package created 155 jobs. Since then, that number has actually fallen, indicating the stimulus has created fewer jobs than previously anticipated.”

“Congressman Kagen voted for the failed economic stimulus bill, cap-and-trade, and other spending bills, ” Ribble said. “These so-called jobs bills have done little to nothing to bring our economy out of the current recession, and have only added trillions to our national debt.”

Reid Ribble is a former small business owner who has balanced budgets and created jobs.  He is running against Dr. Steve Kagen.
