The Second Amendment

“A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves, and render regular troops in a great measure unnecessary.”

Richard Henry Lee, 1788

“The constitution of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people: that…it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.”

Thomas Jefferson, 1824

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment.  I firmly believe the Constitution not only guarantees individuals the right to bear arms, but that its authors meant for them to do so. The quotes above bear witness to that.

Some of my fondest memories during my teen years are of hunting in rural Wisconsin each fall.  My granddad had this magnificent old shotgun that I would shoot with…I’m proud to say I still have that 1897 Marlin shotgun, it’s now an antique, as one of my personal firearms. In Congress I will be an unwavering defender of this personal right and an aggressive advocate for expanding our personal liberties.
